Happily Teaching and Learning by Christina - December 2015 Scholarship Essay
You hear about kids being afraid of the dark, heights, or the sheer fact that there may be a monster hiding under the bed. As a kid, I was terrified at the thought of growing up and never being able to leave the U.S. (All the maps and globes I obsessed about may have had an impact on that.)I laugh at it now but the fear still lives within. In ten years, I want to see myself in another country happily doing what I want to do.
First off, I believe you should know the first thing you should know about me, I absolutely love kids. Not only are they a ball to hang out with, but they can be such a joy to teach as well. Well, that's me anyway. I love teaching, it gives me such meaning and purpose. I find it a great joy to share with others what I know in a fun and effective way. I also adore traveling and the Spanish language. What better way than to combine them all? In ten years I most definitely see myself teaching a class full of Spanish speaking children either in South America, Mexico, or Central America.
Because of the huge love I have for kids and teaching, I will pursue a degree in Elementary Education. Having an education will not only give me the degree of my dreams, but will also expand my horizons. I believe strongly that we cannot make positive impacts without constantly reaching out to new concepts, ideas, and findings. I hope to continually expand my knowledge and better myself as a person. I also hope to never fall victim to my childhood fear.
