The Hope for a Brighter and Affordable Future by Christina - July 2022 Scholarship Essay
Education is a virtue that every person deserves, yet every person does not receive an education. For most, challenges with education include transportation, opportunity, and finances. I have experienced, firsthand, an issue with receiving education in the form of finances. With our ever-changing economy and growth, I hope that education can change for the better in the future and be accessible for all.
When I was a kid, I had always dreamed of going to college. I worked hard to graduate at the top of my class, only for my dreams to be crushed when the time came to apply to college. During my research, I realized how costly attending school is, especially my dream school. I was met with a difficult decision: either drown myself in student debt, or undermine my hardwork and find another school. I decided to settle for a school that was somewhat cheaper than my dream school, but still not what I had worked so hard for.
I hope that in the next decade students will not have to face the same dilemma I did. The cost to attend college is a major factor in determining where to attend school, and it deters a lot of students from even attending. It seems that almost every job in today’s era requires some sort of degree, but that should not be expected with the cost to obtain a degree.
Some may say life isn’t fair, but everyone should be treated fairly when it comes to education. I hope that schools will realize how much financial stress most college students are in and make tuition affordable for all.
