Podcology: The Oncology Podcast by Christina - August 2018 Scholarship Essay

So many people in our country and even around the world receive gut-wrenching news which is that they have been diagnosed with cancer. Just one diagnosis changes their entire lives. They are thrown into a sea of questions without answers. And the worst part is that they don't even know if they will make it out alive. That is why I decided to create Podcology: The Oncology Podcast.
My uncle was diagnosed with cancer about three years ago. I remember my family was overwhelmed with the amount of information and the lifestyle changes we had to make. But the person that was most overwhelmed was my uncle himself. His body was just changing too fast and it took such a physical toll on him and no one in the family could do anything to make it better. Every single day was a different in the way he felt. Sometimes he felt too nauseous to eat and other days he was too weak to even put his clothes on. He used to be such an active person that loved food and socializing. Seeing his life change so drastically from what is was was very tough on my family and I.
These experiences have driven me to create Podcology. So many families out there want their loved ones to get better as soon as possible. Through Podcology cancer patients can find out what exactly their particular cancer is all about. They are able to listen to all the information about their type of cancer and moreover find out the discoveries in research. Additionally, patients are able to find out the best treatments for them including the advancements in technology that will help them get better more efficiently. Furthermore, it also gives handy tips on how cancer patients can change their lifestyles both physically and emotionally. It can show them how to make small changes that will make huge differences. Podcology also gives great home remedies on how to deal with side effects such as nausea from common chemotherapy medicines.
Podcology is the perfect guide for any cancer patient. Being diagnosed with cancer is not an easy thing for anyone as it takes a huge toll on you both physically and emotionally. But my podcast wants to make sure that anyone listening can find all the answers to their questions. Through my podcast I want people to have an easy and positive transition into their lifestyle changes without feeling alone and lost. All cancer patients and their families should be well-informed and equipped to take on the long journey ahead and I know that through Podcology they will be.
