A Resolve To Change The World by Christian - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
The New Year generally marks a time where everyone around the world resolves to better their lives because of obvious shortcomings. Why then do these resolutions so quickly fade to nothing in the back of our minds as we return to our stressful, and tiresome routine? Perhaps a better question is why do we consider it reasonable to pause for one moment, mentally cycle through dozens of ways to improve ourselves, and then only select a single goal for an entire year? Well certainly this ineffectual, near effortless tradition doesn’t represent the end-all solution to true success? No, I’ve come to believe success is derived from an unyielding passion inspiring action in a person at every heavenly moment. After all it is the best moments in life that seem the shortest, so why not try to make every moment the best it can possibly be?
I have dreamed, like billions before me have, to live as free as I can and better the world as much as a single man can do. This is no easy task as history shows us however, and is often riddled with defeat and destitution. It’s hard to strive for a dream and make it a reality, and this discourages more than just a majority of those around me. It’s fear that stops them usually, from chasing a dream, or from changing their life. That’s why nobody does. That’s why the masses improve themselves in one generic, hardly impactful way, once a year for two weeks or a month, and then slump back into the safe, comfortable, wholly dissatisfied position they were in before. I refuse however, to have my feet fall in line with societies lazy strides. I plot to constantly challenge my mind and body, so that I can push my limitations and my capabilities. My resolution is to create multiple new resolutions to mend those faults in my lifestyle that hold me back from being everything I can be, and laugh at fears, the biggest oppressors in the history of the world. I’ve created this resolution because, for the short moment I’ve been given on this suspended orb of beautiful life, I desire to be great. The world should be cherished, and as expressions of the world, like flowers, we should work tirelessly to blossom into everything we dream and more.
Indeed many features of this world are strikingly preposterous. Such is a man who understands his problems, as well as their solutions, but does not solve them. To gear myself towards becoming a better student in 2016 specifically, I will study harder what I don’t know, read parts of textbooks I can’t comprehend, and focus more in class on what I don’t understand. I will stretch out of my comfort zone, work hardest what is weak, and practice day in and day out the principles and wisdoms I’ve been blessed to understand at this point in my life. I have realized that it is necessary to approach every day and situation with all of my courage and effort if I want to realize the destiny that I have been dreaming about my entire life. I believe that not only will my resolve to constantly challenge myself and create ongoing resolutions better me as a student in 2016, but it will better me as a human being for all of my life. One day I dream that I can change the world, and when other curious dreamers look to me and ask what the secret was, I will tell them as many predecessors have told my generation. I will explain that it is necessary to give it everything, and to go at life with all of the willpower in their bodies. I’ll tell them that if they live safely, or lazily, then they will never know what they could have really been. I’ll tell them to never settle for the standard that’s set for them, but to raise it. In fact, break it. Destroy it. Make the impossible possible, because it is. Particularly, I’ll tell them that they won’t get where I am just cruising down the road, or making yearly resolutions. “Are you kidding me?” I’ll say. “Get real. There’s so much more you could see, so much more you could do. When you die, die on E, with no stone unturned, and no dream killed.” and a lot of them will listen like I did and learn how to become better students, and better workers. Some will listen and learn how to change the world too.
