The gift of giving by Christian - December 2023 Scholarship Essay

Throughout high school, I never had an idea of what I wanted to study;that was until my senior year of high school. During my senior year of high school, I began exploring my options as to what I could study in college. I searched through hundreds of majors however none of them appealed to me. I became hopeless and wondered if I would have to apply to colleges as an undeclared major.
All my life, I have had a passion and love for sports like nothing else in this world. This became the blueprint for my major. I researched school majors to see if I could stumble upon any sport related majors. After a montage of research, I stumbled upon the major of Kinesiology. Kinesiology is the study of the body's movement. This major leads to occupations such as an Athletic trainer, a physical therapist, and fitness instructor. More research led to me discovering that there was a sports branch of Kinesiology. At that moment, I realized I had found my major.
The reason I chose Kinesiology was not because it would keep me around sports but because I knew that with a Kinesiology degree, I could help people. Ultimately, this major can allow me to learn about the body and help people strengthen their bodies. Hearing the stories of paralyzed people learning to walk again or strengthen their damaged nerves was mind blowing. I believe Kinesiology benefits society in a way that a doctor does. In a sense you are healing people and fixing their bodies so that they may never feel pain again and be happy. Helping people with their motion of the body may not be as prestigious as performing surgery on someone and fixing a disease within their body but it is still very beneficial towards society. If Kinesiology did not exist, many people would live their lives depressed or in pain. Giving a person who has nerve damage, or a weak body, hope is beautiful. The fact that you have the ability to give someone a chance to rebuild what they lost makes being a Kinesiology major worth it.
