Tomorrow isn't promised by Christian - December 2022 Scholarship Essay

Many of us live by the words "eh, I'll do it tomorrow" but never stop to think; What if there was no tomorrow? We all like to believe that waking up every morning is something guaranteed and entitled to us. However that isn't the case at all. One day you're alive and well, the next you could cease to exist in this world.
2022 was the first year where everything was starting to go back to normal. No more having to wear masks, no more sanitizing, no more quarantine. This also meant no more excuses for school. I've always had a love hate relationship with school;Mostly because of the initiative and responsibility it takes to be a great student. I was never top of my class but I wasn't at the bottom either. I would always procrastinate and say "eh, I'll do it tomorrow." This year, that all changed.
At the beginning of the year I lost someone close to me. It changed my life drastically. I couldn't accept the fact that the person was just here and now I'll never get to see them again. This sparked a realization in my mind. Tomorrow isn't promised. I knew changes in my life had to be made and it began with taking advantage of every opportunity and doing everything I can every day.
This lesson taught me that you can't put things off and expect to be able to do them later. Initiative must begin. It's important to do everything you can and take advantage of every opportunity because then you earn the satisfaction of not having to worry about the question "What if?" Regret is arguably one of the worst feelings in the world. It's a feeling that leaves you distraught at the fact that you'll never get an answer to a question.
You'll experience regret many times throughout your life and be torn apart by the feeling every time. I'm glad I learned this because this lesson rewards me with a new state of mind. One that will allow me to achieve my goals and ensure that I never put off my goals or delay them. This lesson will benefit me to have a strive for achieving my goals. A hunger for reaching the point where I want to be in life. So the next time you say "eh, I'll do it tomorrow" remember, tomorrow isn't promised.
