Math Teacher by Christian - October 2016 Scholarship Essay

For my whole schooling career, I have always had to learn about the subject math. Every year, people tend to go to a different kind of math. The subject itself is not too hard until you get into high school and algebra comes into the occasion. This is when math starts to blow my mind. Why are we having to learn about doing math problems involved with letters? The subject is about numbers so why make it even more confusing. I have always been good in academics besides math. I have always dreaded going to math class since I can remember, because I knew I would probably not be able to understand what we were going to be learning that lesson. However, I always managed to always pass every math I took due to my extreme dedication to understand many of math’s complicated concepts. So if I could choose any subject to switch roles in, it would definitely have to be math.
The reason I would teach math is so I could make the perplexing subject somewhat easier for my students. I would never give them tests with multiple equations that take thirty minutes each to solve. Another thing I would do to make it easier on my student, I would make the tests as short as possible with the easiest form of the equations to not make them receive a bad grade. Next, my students would have freedom to do whatever they wanted to after class. For my whole match career, I have had multiple hours of homework to complete every night. It tends to get so frustrating and ridiculous to the point you extremely hate the class and the teacher. When someone assigns that much homework, it is not to help you better understand the subject but to make you miserable.
Students would love me as a math teacher so much. I would not be a teacher that they dread going to. They would look forward to my class every time because they know that I actually do not want to torture them with math problem after problem. These are the reasons I would teach math instead of having to learn about it.
