Most people would say that they are the most productive if they wake up early because it gives them the most time to get work done, but that has never been the case for me. I have always been a night owl because of my inability to go to sleep early and wake up early, but that hasn’t affected me one bit. I prefer to wake up late and work late into the night because that is when I feel the most proactive. It is extremely hard for me to focus shortly after I wake up, so I prefer to do all of my work later in the day. As a result, I tend to organize my day based off when I believe it is best to start working.
My day typically starts with relaxing and playing video games before I start working. This way I don’t have the need to take many breaks during my long work sessions because I had fun before I started working. I perform at my best in the late afternoon/evening and work until I meet a mental goal that I decided on. Because I work so late into the night sometimes, I always take a mental note of deadlines and organize what assignments I should work on first based off that. I find that this habit of mine actually pays off for me in college because all of my classes are in the middle of the day, meaning that I only have time to work on my school work at night. But how did I become so used to this type of schedule? Simply put, I’m a gamer.
Gaming has always been a big part of my life and it is something I have been extremely passionate about since 2016. Because of my passion for gaming, I frequently found myself staying up until at least midnight every night during high school; which has led to me developing the habit of staying up late. For me, personally, I find that playing video games is the best way for me to de-stress after doing lots of work, so I always take a good portion of my day playing video games after doing lots of homework and attending my classes. In order to fit in all the gaming and work I have to do, I end up staying up late every single day. But this works for me. I feel more awake as the day goes on and working at night is the best time because I use the day time to finish any chores or errands I need to do, as that’s when all the businesses are open as well.
Given these reasons, I consider myself to be a night owl and I hope you can see why I work most productively at night. It helps me focus on the tasks at hand once I have been awake for several hours and I believe it to be the most efficient to focus on my errands/chores during the day. This ensures that they get done because I know that I will always be up late to complete my homework. I know that this is not the life style for everyone, but this is the lifestyle for me.
