Mexico Mission Trip by Chloe - December 2013 Scholarship Essay

My Junior year in high school I went to The City of Children in Baja Mexico. The City of Children is an orphanage for over 100 homeless kids of Ensenada. I have never been so amazed by how happy people could be with having so little. I went on this mission trip hoping to make a difference to them, somehow I received more than I gave from those children. They opened my eyes to what true happiness is and how I can attain it.

The most important thing in the world to those kids is God and family. Every Sunday morning the children go to church together and worship God by singing hymns and reading of scripture. Many of the kids still have their siblings and they protect and look out for one another. The impact this had on me was tremendous, I realized just how selfish I and Americans as a whole are.

On the plane ride back to the U.S. I contemplated how happiness is a choice and that God gave us all a life to live and we're all part of his plan. When I go to college I am going to minor in missions and I hope to go wherever God sends me to help the less fortunate and share the good news of Jesus Christ with them.
