I Will Not Procrastinate Overcoming Procrastination by Chima - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
It may seem cliché, and I am almost 100% certain that I will not be the only applicant with this same New Year’s resolution, but one of my New Year’s resolutions this year is to stop procrastinating! I wholeheartedly believe that procrastination is one of the biggest challenges that college students face. Procrastination is a beast. Every college student suffers from it to some degree, and it is a task that is extremely difficult to overcome. I am confident that procrastination is the number one reason why some students receive bad grades. Of course some students will receive bad grades as a result of simply not understanding the material or failure to complete the work as a result of forgetfulness, but if students did not procrastinate, I am sure that more and more students would get better grades.
The remedy of the procrastination epidemic is quite simple: “do a little bit at a time” — a little here and a little there. My dad sometimes asks me, “How do you eat an elephant?” The answer? “One bite at a time”. This is much easier said than done, however… for me, at least. I believe this is a great approach to tackle procrastination. I believe the hardest part for my journey for 2016 will be the initial start of adopting this method. Overcoming procrastination will not only help me with my studies in school but with other things in life. I am sure I will learn a great life lesson from this. I will triumph over procrastination this year!
