When I reflect on my educational journey, my MATH 1030 Algebra teacher, Michael, stands out as a pivotal figure. This wasn’t just any class—it was my very first college course in the United States. As someone who didn’t attend high school in the U.S., starting college felt like stepping into an entirely new world. Walking into Michael’s classroom for the first time, I was filled with a mix of excitement, nervousness, and uncertainty. What I didn’t realize at the time was how much Michael’s kindness, dedication, and teaching style would shape my early college experience and leave me with a profound sense of nostalgia.
From the very beginning, Michael created an environment that felt welcoming and inclusive. For someone like me, unfamiliar with aspects of the American education system, his approach made all the difference. He often reassured us by saying, “Nobody leaves this class with less than a B,” a promise he backed up with unwavering support.
