#FindYou by Chidozie - April 2018 Scholarship Essay
Every day, all across America, millions of students leave their household to attend school. We similarly perform this same series of events daily, usually in the same fashion for years, however, what we take from school and the education it offers is unique to each of us. Some go to school to create friends and memories, other go broad out their viewpoint exposing themselves to different perspectives from different peer, and finally there are some who out of sheer obligation. Whether you are there to socialize, or to expose yourselves to new ideas, there is one recurring theme that plays out in each reasoning: building your character.
I see my education as a catalyst that enables someone, anyone, to gain access to their true self. It's here that millions of students come to find themselves, their weakness, talents, callings and future. Initially, when I start going to grade school, I hated it. I was easily distracted, lazy and nonchalant towards my grades. Later through the years, during the freshman year, I looked at school in a changed perspective. Because of school, my interest in the STEM field bloomed, as each grade elaborate in different fields in science. At first, I planned on doing mathematics as my chosen career, however, because of the relations I had with my peers, teachers and faculty, I decided to alter my destiny towards chemistry. In addition, I became mature behaviorally, showing respect to those I have interacted with, acknowledging that different worldview exists, and becoming comfortable with my own flaws.
Education is a blessing all in its own, without such a system, the world as we know it simply would not exist. Every student set out to find their own personal place in this world, and while there are numerous paths to choose from, I see education as my way of finding my lifework. It is by this method that I can build myself for success, my way, through learning.
