Teaching Business in an Elementary School For a Day by Chiamaka - April 2022 Scholarship Essay
Volunteering at any place in your locality is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have. I was blessed to have the opportunity of working with a partner to teach first graders some key business terms under the company known as Junior Achievement.
Junior Achievement prides itself in making sure that the next generation of students has a good financial understanding of key areas. When they grow up they have a better understanding and I was opportune to teach them back about money and how money is an important resource that can be used to pay for both wants and needs. I also explained the difference between those key terms.
I learned three important lessons in the time that I spent over there to just have fun because these experiences come once in a lifetime. It is better to give it all you got and be confident than to question whether the move you made was correct because most of the time people do not notice your failures if you do not make to obvious. The second lesson I learned was to enjoy the connections you make with students and try to gain insight from a professional in the particular occupation you want to go into. It is better to have someone who can guide you but also have your back when you fall and also give that same knowledge back to individuals who are younger than you. The third lesson that I was able to take from this adventure was to appreciate the opportunity that was given to you because some individuals do not have the same chances I had. There looking for a chance to showcase their same knowledge to the younger generation. I had the opportunity of staying in Nigeria for part of my freshmen year up until my senior year. They weren't opportune to have some of the hands-on experience that I was lucky to have this year for my senior year.
Hence, this experience opened my eyes to understanding the positive side, of each event that I might find myself in.
