Finding My Passion: A Journey to Pursuing Film by Cheyenne - February 2024 Scholarship Essay
When I started thinking about college, I had no clue what I wanted to get from it or even the career I wanted to take. I thought about what would make me happy, get me money, and how much school will cost. In reality, I had no clue. In this world we live in now, people make millions by just posting themselves doing fun stupid challenges on YouTube. Some people barely get by even though they have a degree and a full teaching job. Neither of those things I want to do, but the contrast impacted my decision on what career will best suit me. I realized my best option was to just do what I already have a passion for.
I recently had a conversation with a friend discussion what college courses we were taking and what jobs we even wanted. I stated how I was only taking general education requirements right now and how indecisive I still was. She gave me the wake-up call of my life, stating that I needed to figure it out soon so I don’t waste my time and money on something I don’t want. A week later I found it. It was like a light bulb turned on in my head and I realized I had a passion for film.
I have already had a social media presence where I discuss movies, TV shows, and books that got turned into movies. Not only that but I filmed and edited videos all the time for free. I have always been fascinated with storytelling or the different ways people can perceive a message from a show or movie. I have never been so excited to learn about any subject before. I couldn’t believe that I didn’t realize that film was my dream major.
This semester marks the first semester I have started my first film class. I am planning on transferring to a different school by next semester that will have an actual film major and better courses to fit my educational goal. The career I want to gain from the knowledge I get from school is either an editor, camerawoman, producer, or director. Even being all at some point in my life will satisfy me. That wake-up call was what I needed, and now I’m on a journey to greatness.
