Respect will take you far by Cheyane - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
As a graduating high school student, I have received several pieces of useful advice over the past four years. Along with all of the knowledge I have gained, the most important one is quite simple. It is to respect your teachers. Your teachers are one of the most valuable resources available to you in high school, and even more so in college. If you build a decent relationship with your teachers, the paths they can help you lay out for yourself are unbelievable. Just like your parents, they have experienced just about everything that you have thus far. However, the difference between parents and teachers is that teachers know what it takes to get into college. They know what schools are looking for now. They even know what it takes in order for you to succeed in high school and furthermore, life. Once you establish a great working relationship with your teacher, you can gain access to so much information. The respect you show your teachers will help when it is time for recommendation letters for colleges. The relationships that you have established with them will make it very easy for them to write a recommendation for you that speaks of your character, as well as academics. When you give your teacher respect, it shows that you have an interest in your education, as well as the educational process. Your teachers will be readily available to you and willing to guide you during your years of high school.
If asked what piece of advice I would share with younger students, I would answer without any hesitation. The most useful piece I could give to any child would be not only to respect your teacher, but also to build a relationship with them. As simple as the advice may seem, it will prove to be very beneficial to you.
