The Beauty of Who You Are by Cherish - April 2016 Scholarship Essay
Coming into middle and high school, there were many obvious standards for girls my age. Dress this way, be skinny, wear makeup. I had never put much thought into those things but all of a sudden, I changed how I looked at myself and wondered why wasn't I like her, why was she so liked by everyone and why no one noticed me. What I needed to do was step back and think for myself for a change. My tip of advice is go in with your head held high and be proud of who you are. Don't let standards change you. Make your own. Everyone is unique and beautiful in their own way. Some may not see it at first but if you prove yourself, your true self, people will come around and love you in your original form. It doesn't matter if your the star quarterback or the prettiest girl at prom. What matters is that your happy with your life and the people in it.
Eventually, once middle school and high school are over, those little details like who had the best jeans or won cutest couple, won't matter anymore, so why dwell over them? Smile while you can, laugh often, and don't be afraid to be who you are.
