From Animals to Healthcare by Chelsea - February 2025 Scholarship Essay
From the time I can remember, I have always had a nurturing personality, which was probably most evident through my love of animals. Later in elementary school, my family moved to some property that allowed us space to have chickens. Before you knew it, we had turkeys, goats, several dogs and cats, and finally what every little girl dreams of...a horse! It was at this time in my life that I received my earliest experiences in the care of animals, both preventative and in times of emergency. I witnessed and assisted in numerous goat births and even incubated turkey and chicken eggs. I spent hours caring for pets and learning about their needs and often volunteered at a local non-profit animal sanctuary. During high school, I participated in the Equine Veterinary Program where I had the opportunity to work side-by-side with veterinarians in the care of animals, including surgical procedures and animal intake tasks. It was during my senior year of high school, that my passion evolved into a broader interest in health care, and I realized that my calling was to work in the field of professional health sciences. Ultimately, I would like to work side-by-side with doctors performing medical procedures.
