The High School Experience by Cheley - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Dear incoming freshmen,

I would like to give you some advice; or rather a small heads up on what to do when you become a high school student. I would suggest looking into clubs and different sports teams. Make new friends and enjoy your high school experience. Always try new things, whether it’s by yourself, or with a friend. If you discover a club that’s not really your thing, just try a new one. There are many clubs and sports teams that are worth giving a try. Hard work and dedication is the key to having a successful high school career.

Making sure that all of your homework assignments are completed and turned in on time is very important. By completing all of your homework on time and turning it in, you can create a stable GPA for yourself. High school can be fun, but grades always come first. If you ever find yourself struggling in a subject, the school has tutors willing to help you so you can maintain good grades. Also, being on good terms with the teachers will give you advantages. If you can make yourself stand out academically the teachers normally don’t mind if you have a late homework assignment every now and then. But it’s still good to work hard, stay organized, and have everything turned in on the correct deadline.

Last but not least, don’t be intimidated by the upperclassmen. They were in your position once. They understand how it feels to be lost, struggle, not make a sports team, or have enemies. We understand and are willing to help every chance we get. We don’t want to scare you, or make you feel as if a task is impossible, we are only there to help and guide you through the up and downs of your high school experience.
