Cornell Notes by Chastity - May 2016 Scholarship Essay
Fold your 1/3 hotdog wise. Write all your notes on the right. Then go back and re-read your notes and write the questions on the left. Then re-read them one more time to write a summary at the bottom. Cornell notes was the most tedious and irritating thing that I had to do in high-school, but in college in became my secret weapon to slay my midterms and finals.
Growing up, Cornell notes always seemed kind off pointless, the material was simple enough to remember and understand that the effort put in to create the notes were more then the knowledge retained from doing the notes. Because of this I always looked down on them. But they became necessary in college. Just the act of going through the notes 3 times even before you could officially finish them is enough to ensure that most, if not all of the content was engrained in my head. Not only that but it kept everything nice and organized, so that for the nights before the finals, when there’s a specific subject to study, you can skim the right side to quickly find what you need.
Overall, Cornell notes were short and simple, and efficient. When it was time for my final exams to come around all I had to do was skim the right side and I was able to see exactly what I needed. It kept me focused and gave me the needed information fast. It was the only reason I was able to pass my finals.
