What Is Your Impact? by Chasity - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

People forget the name but never what they do. If you make an impact in a person’s life, they will never forget you throughout the test of time. That very principle is why I want to be an anesthesiologist. Having another person’s life in my hands fills me with enthusiasm because I love helping others. There’s just something so warming and satisfying in my heart than just choosing to help myself. I am majoring in biomedical studies on a pre-medicine track because it would successfully prepare me for my vigorous studies in medical school. Anesthesiologists assist patients before, during, and after a procedure. Patients’ lives rest in their doctor’s hands, which is extremely important.
I feel that becoming a doctor will be perfect for me because every day that's the daily motivation of a doctor, to see which patient they can help next. I believe everyone is deserving of proper care, and my passion runs deep because I understand how important healthcare is. I currently work in the pharmacy, and daily I see people struggle with various health conditions or are forced with the burden of assisting their loved ones go through this struggle. Hearing their stories always moves me because most patients will keep fighting despite going blind on Monday to being back in the hospital by Wednesday from having a stroke. Patients young and old will be in my care, and I plan to not take it for granted. My satisfaction comes when I can offer relief to my patients and their families following my care.
I want my patients to feel at ease because in my heart it’s right. I would want my healthcare provider to have the same commitment I have toward people. It's imperative as the world is constantly changing and innovating, so healthcare should innovate as well. I understand this commitment will not be easy and I accept and endure the challenge just to meet my future patients waiting for me at the finish line as my impact has successfully been made in this world.
