My Future Career by Chasity - May 2023 Scholarship Essay

Growing up I was one of those kids whose mind was all over the place. One minute I wanted to be a lawyer or a dancer the next I wanted to be a teacher. It wasnt until a series of sicknesses came over the ones I loved most. I witness how much pain and suffering they were in and it hurts knowing there was nothing I could do to help. As they were coming to the end of their life I saw how the Nurses and help them and tried their best to meet their needs; That's when I decided this is something I want to be able to do when I get older.
During my senior year in Highschool, I decided to take the Certified nursing assistant program. This class has helped me a lot with my career decision. I have completed my hands-on training in a local nursing home. Being able to help and care for the residents there brings me great joy. I love seeing their smiling faces and knowing that little things like coloring pictures and having simple conversations with them bring comfort.
The Biggest goal as a future nurse for me is to know that I made a difference in someone's life. Nurses are the most essential part of the medical field in my opinion. They are the first person a patient might see when they walk into a hospital or doctor's office. Nurses not only help with the physical need of patients but they also help with the emotional part. They have to ability to let you know that you will be okay when you are in their care and when you leave. This is something I strive to do. I ultimately want to specialize in Travel nursing, going this route will allow me to go to places that are desperately in need of medical help.
