The Importance of Mentorship in My Education by Chase - January 2025 Scholarship Essay

Having a teacher who can mentor you throughout your high school career can be a huge influence on your education. My education was greatly elevated by a teacher who cared about my future and did anything to help me achieve my goals not only in English, but in life as well. This person always checked my writing and showed me what I could add, what to eliminate, and what to evaluate in each paragraph. The leadership this teacher demonstrates truly embodies the qualities of a mentor you would want in your corner, whether you are navigating essays, chasing scholarships, or tackling the ups and downs of life. Their guidance is not just about academics; it's about building confidence and character. You feel supported and encouraged, knowing they genuinely care about your success and personal growth. Having someone like them by your side makes all the difference.
Dr. Perry was the teacher who showed me the proper way of writing and prepared me for college level writing. She has shown great leadership throughout her years of teaching career. I had the pleasure of taking Dr. Perry for English I and English III Honors I successfully completed both of her classes, which was no easy feat. Her mentoring not only made me better educationally, but personally as well. Whenever I have needed an essay checked, I have always been able to count on her for some solid guidance that would ultimately make my writing stellar. Dr. Perry was not just there to fix my grammar; she genuinely cared about helping me grow as a writer. Her character showed that she could mentor anyone—whether it was about schoolwork, life advice, cracking jokes, or even navigating scholarships. She had this incredible ability to connect with us, making her not just a teacher but a friend who you knew with conviction would be in our corner.
