Pursuing my goals by Chase - April 2024 Scholarship Essay

I'm pretty sure I have undiagnosed ADHD. I have always had a hard time sitting still and I really struggle with focusing. I was fortunate to have some understanding teachers along the way that would allow me to move in the classroom, as long as I was doing my work and not interrupting the learning of others. But, my struggles with focusing have made school a little bit difficult for me.

I have always been a competitive person. I love to compete in sports and have tried to take that competitive nature with me as a I pursue my future goals. However, instead of competing against others for a win, I am competing against my former self to be better than I was last year.

I am also very secure in my faith and that encourages me to pursue the goals I have. I believe that God has put a calling on my heart and I am working to achieve that calling.

Because I want to be a successful adult and enjoy my adult life, I feel it is important to stay focused on my goals. I take each day independent of the others, but know that every day's purpose is combined with the previous day's and week's to help me get closer to the goals and plans I have set for myself. Approaching each day as a new opportunity to be successful helps me not feel overwhelmed, but keeping the big picture on the horizon helps me remember what I am working for.
