Inspiring Literature by Chase - May 2017 Scholarship Essay
My life has been largely defined by the interests that I have had and the media that I have loved has profoundly influenced my life. However what has influenced me more than anything has been the books that I've read. A particularly important book to me are the Harry Potter novels, what specifically appealed to me was the fact that Harry was considered to be weird in every school that he went to prior to Hogwarts and to have this place where weird was accepted gave me something to imagine being in.
Harry's world was something that I could easily envision and something that I wished I could be a part of. It was a place where this weird kid with glasses was a complete fit and was considered special. To have something that can speak to me like that is why I have loved the books so much and why I think that they are inspiring. I will be the first to admit that I am not normal and I think the character that I most connected with was Hermione who was a person who was this insufferable know-it-all but was deep down a great person. This influenced me because we possessed similar personalities and it was great for me to finally have a character that I could connect with.
