Making an Impact by Charlotte - April 2025 Scholarship Essay

Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to do something that would make a difference in people’s lives. I’ve always enjoyed helping others, but I knew that becoming a doctor, lawyer, or police officer wasn’t what I wanted to do in life. That’s why I plan to major in social work. Social work gives me the chance to support people in difficult situations and be someone they can count on. I like how flexible and broad the field is. With a degree in social work, I could become a school counselor, a social worker in schools or hospitals, work with children in foster care, or even become a therapist. There are so many different paths I can take, and they all involve making an impact on others.

Being in Girl Scouts for the past 11 years has helped me discover how much I enjoy giving back to my community. Through volunteering and helping people in need, it made me realize how personally rewarding it is. These experiences have made me realize that I want to keep helping others as a career, not just as a hobby or activity. Social work feels like the perfect fit because it combines my passion for helping with real opportunities to create change. Whether it's supporting students, working with families, or standing up for people who don’t have a voice, I know I can make a difference through social work.
