Creativity! by Charles - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

The modern classroom of today's society can be easily described using one word: boring. Every student of nearly every classroom yearns for the beautiful sound of the ringing bell, a metaphorical "get out of jail free" card. The same dull work is completed in the same dull way every single school day, and therefore, the students become wearied disruptions to class causing the learning environment to be anti-productive. However, if a teacher were to add some form of controlled creativity to class, the students would learn much more efficiently and have fun along the way. Usually, teachers will set the students upright in their desk, dim the lights, and display a plethora of notes which the teacher alone reads monotonously in what seems like an attempt to cause the students to fall asleep. If, perhaps, the teacher were to add some "spice" to their lesson, the lesson could be fun. Obviously, not all subjects are immensely enjoyable, but it is the teacher who makes the lesson, not the student. If school was only about copying notes from a board, then teachers would be obsolete.

Each teacher is different in personality and style, but every student can agree that they learn more in a "fun" teachers class. It does not matter what the teacher does as long as they put their full heart into teaching and involve the students. We are becoming a generation of educational robots and the guilt can go directly to robotic teachers. The lessons must be controlled of course, (not a chaos class) but every child deserves, if they are forced to go to school and take unwanted classes, to at least enjoy those classes. If teachers would add some life to their classroom, then maybe instead of students yearning for the sound of the bell, they will feel remorse AT the sound of the bell.
