The Perks Of An Early Bird by Charles - January 2019 Scholarship Essay
In this day and age, it seems that most young adults will complain about waking up early. Most of their fuss is caused by behaviors such as staying up late on their phones or computers, however. I, on the other hand, don't worry about waking up early in the morning, as I usually tend to rise around five-thirty in the morning. Some of my peers may ask, "Why do you do this?", or, "How can you do this?". The answers to those questions are quite simple; I can be more productive when I get up earlier, and I can avoid the consequences of late-day laziness by doing all my tasks beforehand, plus I've been doing it for so long that now being an early-bird is second nature to me.
I heavily subscribe to the notion that time is money. It's partially why I get up so early. The earlier I wake up, the more time I grant myself to do tasks. My morning routine usually goes like this; I wake up, then wake up the rest of the family (except my father, who rises even earlier than me), then I get ready for school and help out with some morning chores (cleaning out the dishwasher, etc.). After that, I usually have one-and-a-half to two whole hours to do my schoolwork. The extra time is great, and I think it has really contributed to keeping my grades high. I wouldn't have the same motivation to do work after school because by then I am very tired and burnt out after learning so much (I still work in the afternoons though to get a start on homework, however).
As I stated before, many of my peers will ask me how I can get up so early. Many factors contribute to my Early Bird behavior. One example being that for the last 6 years, I have had early bird classes in my high school which start an hour before normal school begins, thus, I have woken up earlier to compensate for those classes. Over time, my body got used to waking up at that time, so now I constantly wake up early, even if I do not have school. I usually get up with plenty of energy, not requiring any sort of caffeinated drinks to boost myself (I don't like tea or coffee anyway).
Overall, I believe my productivity has been positively affected by my Early Bird routine, and quite frankly, I believe people should get in the habit of sleeping sooner and waking up earlier in order to increase their productivity as well.
