I am a Contribution by Charity - January 2024 Scholarship Essay

My biggest contribution to my community was realizing that my existence and the way in which I live my life can leave a powerful impact on the lives of others. When I came to understand how my character can positively influence people who I don't even know, I discovered my true purpose in life. Each person in this world has a job to do, some contribution that will heavily impact the age and generation in which they are living. Some contributions leave seemingly negative effects on many people, but I believe that everything works together for the good, even if it isn't initially apparent. The terrible things that occur in our world often bring about good in ways unbeknownst to us. The challenges we face only make us stronger, though it should not be any individual's goal to bring about strength through suffering. However, when such sufferings and pains are introduced and inflicted, it is imperative that there are people who know how to find the good in the face of adversity. My purpose in life is to leave a positive impact on the lives of others through both words and deeds and encourage others to find that positive side of every situation.

It is each individual's responsibility to positively impact the world through their actions and personal endeavors. It is my personal conviction that I can and should work to impact my community in ways that will benefit and prosper the people within. My community does not just include the people in my neighborhood, but everyone with whom I will ever come in contact. I am convinced that if I strive to always do my personal best, I will be a light to others who are struggling. Living my life with a purpose will allow others to see that there is a light at the end of a dark tunnel. It doesn't take much to leave a powerful impact, but sometimes it's the little things that we often forget about that are really impactful. A smile to a stranger, letting someone go first at the checkout line, or holding the door for someone; each of these small gestures is are examples of little services that can constitute meaningful and impactful moments.

My job is to encourage others to lead lives that will lift up and strengthen people around them and to show a love that is never-ending. After all, love is literally the meaning of my name, and I can do no less than strive to live up to it. Thus, coming to the understanding of how my life can be an example and statement of encouragement to others was and will remain the best contribution I can ever make to my community.
