The Benefits of Leadership During College and After by chanel - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Leadership skills are necessary for college success and for success in life after college. Being a strong leader for yourself is key to staying committed and finding a clear path to your goals when you enter the college environment. You can’t count on the ideal mentor to fall into your lap on your first day, and even if you do find such a relationship, you still need to count on yourself for guidance when it comes to what your true passions and strengths are. You need to be able to motivate yourself to stick to your commitments and exceed your own expectations.
Developing your leadership skills is also a great way to attract a like-minded community of others who have similar goals. By standing as positive examples for one another, you can count on that joint strength when faced with the challenges that come from new experiences and being in a rigorous educational environment.
Being able to count on yourself and finding people who are also accountable and leaders in their own right keeps you determined and focused, which will allow you to excel and take advantage of your educational opportunities while you are in school. This strong foundation of leadership and confidence will continue to benefit you once your education is complete and you enter into your professional life. Honing your leadership skills while in school will prove to be just as important to your future career as the academic knowledge you gained while you were a student.
