Advanced Biology by Chandler - June 2016 Scholarship Essay
As I approached my final year as a high school student, I knew I would be in for a tough year. My courses included two middle-college classes on top of four grueling senior courses. At the top of the list of difficulty, advanced biology took the crown and ran.
To begin the first semester of the year, organic chemistry taught me a very valuable lesson about studying thoroughly everyday. I knew this class was going to be a difficult course, and I learned right off the bat the importance of reviewing material before each class. My instructor, Mrs. Milly McGlauchlin, is a seasoned teacher at my school as she has been there since the opening of the institution in the 1960s. She stressed the importance of becoming an "intelligent adult" to the class and constantly reminded us to study daily. As someone who is gifted with the ability to not have to study very much or very often, I learned after the first test I would not be able to sit in class and pass with an "A" like I had done much of my high school career.
The first test came and went, and I was not very pleased with the outcome I had achieved, or lack thereof. I learned that I would have to start studying frequently in order to reach the goal I had in mind. I began a new study routine that helped improve my grade at an impressive rate from my recent blunder. Through daily grades, quizzes, and future tests I managed to obtain an "A" like I was hoping for. I maintained an "A" average throughout the remainder of the semester, and I carried over my good habits to the following semester. By the end of the year, I had begun to make constant mid 90 scores on most all of my work, and as a result of my study habits, I still can recall most of the information I learned throughout the year and the importance of studying.
