A Lifetime of Happiness by Ceyrstin - July 2014 Scholarship Essay
Rita Pierson once said, “Every child deserves a champion – an adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best that they can possible be.” This quote does an amazing job in describing the teacher that changed my life for the better. Before meeting this special life changer, my attitude towards education was extremely negative. Having no motivation to achieve greatness really does require an extraordinary teacher to bring change.
My transformation from elementary school to middle school was rough and without the kind heart of my English teacher I may have never change my mind about school or education in general. She taught me that no matter what happened in the past, one is still able to overcome their challenges and fears. Having negative teachers in the past can truly cause you to become just like them (negative). I had never had someone there to believe in me or my goals. She was actually the first teacher to tell me she believed in me, when I told her I wanted to be an oncologist and specialize in pediatrics. I am a firm believer that it only takes “one” person to change the life of a young child lost in the world of education.
Life at this moment is as happy and joyful as it was the moment I first met the wonderful English. I am now going into my sophomore year of college with a positive outlook on my education. I believe education is the key to success as a while as having an amazing teacher to show you the way. I now see a lifetime of happiness in my future.
