When going to a different country to study abroad there are many opportunities to learn and enhance your college education. Studying abroad can positively expand your experience on different cultures, activate enrichment and value to the subjects taught, expand connections and networking internationally and furthermore sparks new interests and motivations in careers, education, etc. This is a great opportunity and a privilege for students invested in an academic career and who also want to endeavor the world. Throughout the time spent studying abroad there is a chance for broadening one’s perspective of the world.
Firstly, studying abroad can positively impact college education by providing knowledge on different cultures and thus expand knowledge of the world. When traveling to a different county or multiple areas students will stay there locally for a specific period. This stay may be in a university or off-campus site. When students are localized in a specific area and take classes in that area there is a connection of learning outcomes and the culture that surrounds them. For example, taking a semester in Puerto Rico and learning the language and culture is more interactive than learning it by lecture in a classroom in a college of your main college. A student who is taught in Puerto Rico will go to lecture and be taught about the culture and after will get to experience culture themselves as they are surrounded by these aspects of Puerto Rican life. Students can facilitate communication with native speakers and absorb the behavior and characteristics of Puerto Rican life instead of passively reading through a textbook and watching videos on the subject. These connections between academics and culture can embed positive learning outcomes in memory by absorbing the culture around them and being a part of the culture by living there and embracing a different perspective.
Next, studying abroad is a great way to provide positive impact in college education because it activates enrichment. Adding value and improving or enhancing the value of something is known as enrichment. This process could be a part of the opportunity of studying abroad. When in a classroom learning about a course that place certain characteristic of a different area is placed it can be difficult to comprehend or a student does not fully embrace the subject. A student can be passive with this subject because it does not show value to their life. Yet, when studying abroad students will have the privilege of living in the environment in which they were taught in class. This adds more value into what is being taught because for a period the students will live on campus and can go on excursions and travel around the country they are in. This will assert that students will make the best out of their learning experience and create a positive experience in their college education.
Third, studying abroad can be a positive impact on students because it can create connections and networking internationally. When in different country there are many people a student meets and communicates with. This communication can help build relationships in these parts of the world. In my personal experience of studying abroad I have grown relationships in other different parts of the world. You can meet a mentor when studying abroad who in the future gives great advice on college and expanding education. So, students can create networking and connections with other students or people that will have a positive impact with college education and further in their careers. These connections will build a strong network of people that can help in the future and can be valuable to life that will also be practiced when studying abroad has ended.
Furthermore, studying abroad can create a positive college education spark new interests in careers and education. When going to study abroad there are new ideas that are being exposed to a student every day. These ideas can be enhanced by communicating with different people and recognizing new cultures. There can be new interests in speaking a different language or focusing studies on different concepts in life. I have had classmates that endeavor into the world by going to different countries for their studies. They have learned different languages and have reflected on what they truly want to do with their education. These ideas will can broaden interests in students and motivate them to do more with their education. Many students who have the chance to study abroad find new and exciting interests that will be impactful in the future. This can help student with creating the path towards where they want to go in life whether it is to keep pursuing what they are studying in or strive further in school and education.
There are many students who find studying abroad to be enlightening and create a great impact on their careers and education. Many college students should have the chance to be able to study abroad for their education. Today, students who go to college are not shown the possibility to endeavor the world and embrace different cultures. There should be more access to studying abroad for students who do not know the opportunities given to them when studying internationally.
