If I could have dinner with any historical figure I would choose to spend my evening with the artist Jasper Johns. I have looked up to Jasper Johns since my junior year in high school. I was in an advanced art class and my teacher assigned us a project to re-create the work of a master artist. His artwork caught my attention as soon as I started researching him. The light and dark contrast he uses draws the viewer in and holds their attention. I was also drawn to the different materials he used and was challenged to recreate a piece that was made with unconventional materials.
Now that I myself am an artist, art teacher and going back to college for a second bachelor’s degree, I would like to tell him how much his work has inspired my artwork over the last decade. It would be the opportunity of a life time to have dinner with Jasper Johns. Some people may not enjoy art, or be artistically talented, but just being in the presence of an amazing artist is a treat in itself. Sharing ideas and talking about time spent on a painting would be the highlight of my night.
