Learn, Grow, & Love by Cassidy - February 2024 Scholarship Essay

My journey toward finding a career path began during my youth, shaped by a myriad of experiences that instilled in me a deep-rooted desire to become a globally-minded individual. Activities such as participating in Girl Scouts, volunteering at church and community events, and embarking on travels with my family all played pivotal roles in shaping my aspirations. Through these engagements, I gained invaluable lessons on the significance of volunteerism and started to get a better understanding of what values define me.

As a little girl, I witnessed the struggles my grandparents and mom faced due to a lack of higher education—they couldn't find jobs, had difficulty paying bills, and were challenged in supporting our family. I always knew that pushing myself was not a matter of choice but a question of necessity; it was something I was passionate about, and it motivated me to strive for more. Enrolling in rigorous classes and various electives helped further advance my development.

Choosing to study government became my clear path, as I understood it would enable me to contribute meaningfully to society, reinforcing my determination. Recognizing that a degree in Political Science would equip me with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate diverse avenues of public service and effect positive change, I felt reassured in my decision. In my view, education serves as the cornerstone for constructing a fulfilling life characterized by meaningful interactions that contribute to one's personal growth. This belief propels me towards Political Science once again, as it delves into the intricacies of government structures, policies, and the complexities of human behavior within the sphere of governance.

My passion for this field finds its roots in both personal experiences and my innate inclination toward analyzing issues on a global scale. Engaging in volunteer work and immersing myself in diverse cultural experiences through travel has fueled my insatiable curiosity to gain a deeper understanding of various countries and regions.

Encountering life obstacles, coupled with my passion for history, served as catalysts for my interest in government and exploration. Securing this scholarship would serve as a crucial stepping stone toward my overall goal of deepening my understanding of constitutional matters and honing the skills necessary to engage in debates about public issues.

I am committed to using my education as a means for inspiring others, continuing to serve my community, and advocating for those whose voices often go unheard. I firmly believe in the transformative power of self-improvement, recognizing that each opportunity for growth opens up a world of endless possibilities. College, to me, symbolizes the life I envision for myself, and I stand ready to embark upon this transformative journey with determination.
