The Great Gatsby by Cassidy - October 2020 Scholarship Essay
In my busy schedule, I always find time to read. Whether it’s for a homework assignment or to clear my mind before bed, reading is an excellent way to refresh your brain. I am not a person who reads books at a rapid rate, but my most recent read is “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
To begin, the reason I read this book was for an assignment. My English teacher is very passionate about the books she assigns and promised that I would find this book interesting. Just as she ensured, I enjoyed the read very much. “The Great Gatsby” is about a young Nick Carraway and his adaption from a small town in Minnesota to New York. He rents a house in West Egg, which is known as new money. Where East Egg represents old money, where families have continued to have wealth through their timelines. Nick Carraway moves into a house next door to a strange neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Jay wishes he could be in East Egg and be married to Daisy, but because of his status, he belongs in West Egg. After going through many circumstances trying to win Daisy back, Jay gives up and ends up getting murdered from Daisy’s husbands mistress’s significant other.
To conclude, this short story shows many morals and lessons that make this book a literary masterpiece. After reading this book, I can say that money doesn’t make a man more or less valuable. This kept Gatsby from reaching his true love Daisy. Overall, the book was worth the read.
