Determination by Cassidy - January 2018 Scholarship Essay

Determination is the one word I would use to describe my wish to attend college. My entire life has been full of determination; from being determined to make the grade school basketball team, to finishing my last high school semester with a 4.0 GPA. Determination is a want, and a desire to accomplish a goal or meet a requirement. To me, being determined is having a passion for something and never giving up, even when the going gets tough.

I believe self-determination leads to success. If a person is determined, nothing can get in their way. They will find a way to get over any roadblock and continue on the path to success. Determination is very similar to persistence. Persistence is continuing a course of action. Determination and persistence are different in the fact that determination comes along with a want, and persistence may not. Persistence may be required to finish a task while determination is self-desired.

I am determined to graduate high school and go on to college. I am committed and determined to graduate college in four years with a degree in Nursing. I will do whatever is necessary to be successful. Once I graduate college, I will feel that my determination has paid off and I will have a sense of self-accomplishment. I will move on to new goals with a new determination.
