Extracurricular Activities and High School Graduation by Cassidi - October 2015 Scholarship Essay

My name is Cassidi Green and I am a junior at Loveland High School, situated in the beautiful city of Loveland, Colorado. My lifelong dream has been to become a lawyer. Recently, I enrolled in a College Level Criminal Justice class. Through this class, my eyes were opened to the impact that our police officers, fire fighters, and other service personnel have on our country. I have gained a new level of respect and admiration for these individuals who put their life on the line every day to protect our community. This new revelation in my life has impassioned my desire to enter the Criminal Justice Field in college and then continue on to earn my law degree. If I had never been afforded the opportunity to try something new, I may not have known that I can eventually have an impact on our society by offering my services to help solve the criminal and social justice issues that the United States is currently facing.

I strongly believe that all students should have to be involved in some sort of extra-curricular activity while they are in high school and that this should be a graduation requirement. The more exposure you have to new and unique ideas, the more you learn about yourself. You can learn something spectacular from someone older than you or younger, or the same as you or different. I also feel that maintaining a healthy balance is important in life. Students should take the time while they are in high school to try different things, get to know diverse people, and explore parts of them that they may not know exist.

I have spent the past 12 years working on my tumbling and stunting skills at an All Star Cheerleading gym. I have worked very hard to accomplish my personal and team goals. This past summer I was awarded the opportunity to perform in the London New Year’s Day Parade on January 1st, 2016. During my journey as a cheerleader, I have learned how to work as a team by accomplishing more together than I could alone, how commitment can be rewarding, and what an impact a coach can have on me. My extra-curricular activity has shown me how contagious kind words and a smile can be.

Although everyone is different, there is an activity out there that each of us would love that we have just not had the exposure to yet! I am always excited to try new things, learn exciting topics, explore different surroundings, meet diverse people with different ideas, and most importantly, learn about ME! By experiencing extra-curricular activities, I may just walk away being someone that I never dreamt of!
