Professor McAchran by casey - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were to be a college professor it would be difficult to choose a single subject for me to teach. For one thing I have a large number of interests and to limit myself to a single course would be like only having a single hobby. While one could become a master of that hobby, whether it be singing, painting, or quoting movies, eventually the hobby would lose it's interest. I imagine that being a professor would be very similar to me. While I could be a master of that subject I would become bored of lecturing that single thing.
If I were forced or unable to allow my focus to be split among multiple classes, however, my first choice would likely be aerospace engineering and classes of that type. Air and space crafts have always been an interest of mine and being able to help shape the minds that will create the next league of transportation would truly be amazing. Knowing I had a hand in creating a knew way for humans to move not only around the globe but also through the solar system and possibly beyond would be as if being the sailing teacher Leif Eirkson. While I may not have a hand in the discoveries I would know I helped shape them and allowed for the discovery. I would also enjoy the ability to do research in the field. Probing for ways to create a more effective way to traverse the air and break into space in a more casual way.
My second choice would likely be Calculus. Although I do not have as deep an interest in calculus I do enjoy math and working through it. I delight in working through these problems and finding the correct sequence to discover the answer hidden in the numbers and letters. Similarly I find it so amazing watching as others work through the math and seeing the light flash in their mind as they discover what they've been missing. However, I do see less of a direct impact in the history of mankind. I have never had an incredible understanding of how mathematical discoveries are made and in all honesty I don't know if there are any discoveries for me to make.
To be utterly honest I don't believe that teaching for me. I would much rather be the student and move into the workforce to take what I had learned from a professor and put it into practice. The it takes a very specific person to teach and I don't believe that person to be me however, I do see the great value of teachers even if I am not one of the teaching type.
