Biology..Knowledge For A Better Earth by caryn - April 2013 Scholarship Essay

           When people think of the most useful subjects, they think of math and English. To me though, biology is one of the most important and one of my favorite subjects. I am a Health Science major at the Florida Gulf Coast University, so for me biology is mandatory. If you ask me, it should be mandatory for everyone. It does teach for example, accounting students things like the Calvin cycle which seems useless, but in reality it is teaching us how to make a better Earth. Right now our ecosystem is in trouble, maybe if more people understood things like environmental biology, the Earth would be brighter with all of the plants, and the threat of global warming would be lower.           Biology is also one of my favorite subjects because I've always loved learning how things work. Biology not only covers how things function in the environment but in some classes it teaches me things  about myself. For example, I've leaned how I convert oxygen and even though I understand it, it still keeps my mind blown. I learn something mind boggling everyday, unlike in math where it is always letters or numbers just in different combinations. Biology blows me away with how complex our life really is.
