My Father, Todd by Carter - March 2023 Scholarship Essay
My father, Todd Boettcher, has impacted me the most throughout my childhood. Watching him as I grew up shaped me into the person I am today. My father is in a managerial position. He shares how hard it is to look at resumes, finding individuals to hire for different positions. Most employers want individual's with degrees that support developing careers. When I was young, he tried his best to raise me correctly with discipline and ensure I had manners. When I was younger, I did not understand why he was raising me this way; all my friends would do something that I wanted to do, and he would tell me no because it was not the right thing to do. He always used to say, "just because they do it, it does not make it right," and "life is not fair." That has stuck with me and helped me choose the right thing when others are doing the opposite. Even though I did not realize what was correct, I have learned that he always had my best interest in mind when raising me.
Another thing he has taught me is that good things happen to patient people. There have been many things that I have wanted but are not needed. Bonding with him as I get older keeps getting more special each day. I will never live up to being the man he is, but I will never stop trying, and I cannot thank him enough for all he has done and for the father that he is.
