Don't Get Ahead of Yourself, Past-Me by Carson - September 2022 Scholarship Essay
Growing up, we all made mistakes as kids or really wished we knew something then that would have really helped us out in a sticky situation, but we didn’t, and we have to accept that now. If it were at all possible, I would tell my past self so much to help relieve stress from situations I got myself into. But if I could only give just one piece of advice to my past self, it would be to not procrastinate and get your work done as soon as you can.
We all put off work so we can get more alone time, but in doing so, we are stacking up that amount of work we then must do. Stress and anxiety levels rise causing us to lose focus and not put our best effort in. I can say this as I have done it to myself numerous times. I often put work aside for pleasure and leisure and ended up with assignments upon assignments to do. I stressed myself out and rushed through all the work just to get it over with. Doing so led me to getting grades I know I could have done better on. Although I may now push back some work every now and then so I can get a break, I don’t do it to the point where I am loaded with so much work to do that I end up getting stressed out about it. I have a schedule of what needs to get done and I get it done. Making sure I told my younger self to stay focused and to not procrastinate would be something I would do given the chance I could.
We all have had moments in our life where we regret our decisions and now, we have to live with what we have done. For me, procrastinating really put me at a disadvantage at many situations. If given the chance, I would make sure that my younger self knows better and keeps himself together and organized, so he can do even better in life.
