What I Give is My Story by Caroline - January 2024 Scholarship Essay
When I was thinking of ways that I have contributed to my community one word came to mind, testimony. The most valuable thing we have- weather you are the richest person in the world or the poorest-is our story. Our story is made up of our past present and affects our future. The unique thing about our testimony is that there are about 7.8 billion people in the world but there is only one story like yours, your testimony. I am a person who likes to be busy, I can’t stand not doing anything. I go to church every Sunday, I go to school, and I have a job. I do clubs and internships and the list goes on. In each place that I go I give a part of my story, a part of who I am.
I go to church every Sunday moring and Wedsnday night. I listen to what the preacher preaches every moring then I go home and do further research into my bible and showing the existence of a theistic God. I have looked into and studied everything from geology, to astrology, to biology, and now physics and everything in between. I do this so when I meet someone who says ‘God doesn’t exist’ I can show them that he does without touching the Bible. This is the first part of my story, of what I give to my community, my knowledge and my passion.
Wedsnday nights in my youth group is madness. We have teenagers from 11 years old to 18 years old. Anytime a student get hurt, they come to me, anytime a game needs to be set up I do it, anytime we go on a youth trip I am in charge of the middle school girls, anytime we get someone new I will always be there to greet them, and anytime someone just needs a hug I am there. This is the second thing that I give to my community, my love and care.
At my school I was the president of two clubs. It was my job as president of the clubs to organize events and write lessons and sometimes give a small speech or presentation about two to three times a week. Recently I had to step down from my presidential roles because while I was president I was ‘traning’ the current presidents on how to be a mediator-that is the most important job of a leader-and showing them what they needed to do. Even at work one of my good friends had confessed to me that she was a little intimidated by me because of my leadership skills; this leads me to my third contribution to my community, my leadership skills.
The final way I give to my community is my loyalty. One day my best friend had called me in tears because something terrible had happened to her. When she called and told me I immediately went to be with her. Later we were talking and she told me that the reason why she called me was because she knew I would come and I would not leave for any reason at all, “the world could be on fire and you would still be right here”.
Despite everything that I do, I always want to give to my community. I give in the ways of my knowledge and passion to extend the Kingdom of Heaven. I give in the ways of my love, care and loyalty for others. I give in the way of my leadership skills to teach others and keep people safe because despite everything I will always contribute to my community wholeheartly with everything that I got until the day I die because I love my community and the people in it more than anything.
