My Purpose by Carmen - April 2024 Scholarship Essay
My family has always encouraged me to pursue my academic goal of going to college, however, that is not the exact way that they motivate me. I believe overall, college will prepare me for a future where I can give back to them and then go on to support a family of my own someday. These reasons alone, have motivated me to decide to go to college.
The first way college will help me in supporting my family is by giving my life structure to live a comfortable future. The way I see it is that you either work hard now or potentially struggle later on in life. By getting a higher education, I am opening more doors to job opportunities that will provide me with a livable income. I have seen this firsthand through my mom. She stopped going to college to take care of my siblings and I full time, but the time came around when she decided it was time to go back to school because the little education she did have made it difficult to find a job. She knew going back to school was going to be worth it for the benefit of our growing family. Now she is glad she went back to finish school because there are so many great job opportunities that opened up and she strongly believes it’s the reason for her success and comfortable living now.
With my college degree, I will be able to find jobs more easily and be able to earn an income, which can allow me to give back to my family. I’d love to have the opportunity to relieve the financial pressure off of my parents and grandparents' shoulders because they all took part in raising me. Being able to take care of them back has always been a goal of mine.
With the money I earn, I can also focus on supporting a family of my own. College will help me by providing me with the qualities and knowledge that will allow me to mature into a parent, and a hard worker, and allow me to be the best version of myself for my family. Being able to provide and be there for my family and future children, is another goal I have set for myself.
My decision and motivation to go to college is a good one and is essential to the lifestyle I wish to live. I am confident that at the end of my college career, I will be successful in life and in completing my goals of giving back to my loved ones and starting a family of my own. Although I know how rigorous achieving academic goals can be, I have learned that keeping my future in mind and simply starting things helps me focus and make progress. Finding the motivation to get up every morning and get to where I need to be, starting my work, is the hardest part of it all, but with my motivation, I am certain I can achieve anything.
