Passion by Carly - August 2017 Scholarship Essay
When kids go to school, learning will seem easier when they have a teacher that loves what they are doing. If I were a college professor, I would want to do the same for my students. I would want to teach something that meant a lot to me, and that my passion for the subject could be passed on to my students.
In the fall of my senior year I wrote a paper on my local police department for a college class and I loved every minute of it. Writing the paper also allowed me to join their law enforcement explorer post. I love what we learn and how we learn it, so if I were to teach a class, I would teach a law enforcement class. This class wouldn't be in the lecture format, or the lab format. It would be a combination of the two, with hands on and scenarios that we would go through. The class would be similar to what we do for explorers. We would focus on specific topics and ways to go about situations that one may face in the law enforcement careers. The class would also have scenarios, these would be close to real life situations that can allow the student to learn and practice with the help of role-players. Students in the class would take turns being the role-players. If there is one thing that I have learned about myself and my peers, it's that when you are role-playing in a scenario, and watching what your peers are doing in similar situations, you can learn a lot. You can learn the different perspectives and different techniques.
The class would be something that a student could take even if they are not going into a law enforcement career. The class would teach skills including leadership, decision making, dealing with stressful situations, and teamwork. Teaching this class would be more like a hobby rather than a obligation, I think it would be fun and I believe that the students that take it would also have fun.
