Not Really A Beach Bum by Carl - February 2019 Scholarship Essay

As a young boy, I always looked forward to taking trips to Florida and fishing with my dad. My dream was to catch a shark, and on occasion, we would reel in a small shark. However, the stories back home always included catching a shark, usually larger than the actual size. Now, that I am reaching adulthood and looking forward to having fishing trips with my children one day, I know that my dream job would be a marine biologist.

Swimming with the sharks, learning their needs and finding ways to protect these amazing creatures is of utmost interest to me. I always find myself in conversations, explaining why the sharks are important to the ecosystem. Watching and studying the ocean's ultimate predator in the food chain is intriguing.
I anticipate that my college education will empower me to understand the biological systems of the shark's habitat. I look forward to learning how to perform research and ultimately transfer the information into analytical data. My education will provide communication skills, allowing me to positively demonstrate to mankind the importance of sharks.

Ultimately, my education will enable me to properly and safely examine the shark in his own environment. The research I gather can then be transferred to shared knowledge among humanity. All the while, I can spend much time swimming in the oceans.
