Education Opens the Eyes by Carissa - December 2014 Scholarship Essay
As I was growing up, I have always been taught that education was very important. Now, starting my first year in college, I am starting to see the great benefits of a good education. I have always been one to help people and have developed a desire to become a counselor in order to continue to help people. The more educated I become, the more I see it as a necessity because through education, we are able to better our society.
Now in my experience, the more educated I become, the more I feel as if I am able to help people. For example, in a sociology class I took, I learned a whole ton of information about the things that were going on around me. Not only in my state, but also in the city I live in. It was all very surprising to me, but now I can help more people by being aware.
A good education has helped develop who I am by helping me see all the different things that people can do in society to help each other out. By being more educated and more informed, I am more sympathetic towards the things around me and all the bad that is going on. Being educated in our society has shaped me to become more of the helping hand that I wanted to be ever since I started middle school. Education opens people’s eyes to a whole new world that lets them discover what they want to do with their future and how they can help our society.
