Our Learning Butterfly Effect by Carina - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

Human beings learn, whether it’s by sitting on the couch all day, to working full time and having the job of raising a family, or of course, going to school. Now, the likelihood of actually learning the same exact things are very low, not even if the situations are the exact same. Life is not about hoping to learn, but whether or not one chooses to learn and accept.
In 25 years, I see myself continuing to learn because I will know that I need to do so to help my kids continue to grow and choose the right path to success. Giving up is not an option for me if I am going to be a good example to my future family. In reality, most people are actually done with college by then and their mindset if quite different than a 17-year-old; they are not worried about college, but about their children's future. By that time, I would be about 42 and with a family, and they will be my teachers and allow me to learn from them.
To get this opportunity, I must start learning now and never stop. For that, I will have to keep trying to get scholarships to pay for my education, work a part-time job during college to save money, and use it wisely for my future. Finally, after college I will have to work through the pain and sweat I will endure at the State Trooper Training Academy to get my career. I don’t want my kids to have the financial hurdles I do or have to worry about financial problems like I had to when I was younger. They will not question if mom will have enough money to buy groceries for the next month. They will not worry if dad loses his job there will be no money for school clothes or supplies. They will not worry because I learned. I will continue to learn because their success will remind me of my dedication to success from the start.
There was a time when women were expected to be “stay at home” moms and take the responsibility for raising a family and cleaning the house. Times have changed, but women don’t have to give up on one thing for another; they can multitask and accomplish more than one career. Being a stay at home mom /dad is a career, a career is “an occupation undertaken for a significant period of a person's life and with opportunities for progress.” Being a stay-at-home mom is for a significant time and it gives one the opportunity to fail, improve, learn, grow, and do better than before. I will learn how there is no reason to give up something so precious up but to take on more responsibility and being able to support financially as well. That is not only my dream, but my goal. I will learn to multitask.
In life, one will never stop learning, whether it’s 25 years from now or 50 years from now. The reason the human race is surviving is because we learn. We went from being racially segregated to the way we are now, together. There are still some bumps and bruises here and there, but we are united for the most part. I will learn to ignore the hateful comments from being a Mexican-American woman trying to be a state trooper, ignore the doubts in my head whether I will have enough money to pay for college. Ignore the criticism from my own family about how college isn't worth it. I will succeed. So 25 years from now, I will continue learning about how my butterfly effect unrolls because I chose to never give up. I will always stay learning.
