How I'll Be Learning in Twenty-five Years by Canyon - September 2018 Scholarship Essay

Twenty-five years from now, I will be 42 years old. At 42, I see myself learning more and more techniques to be a better welder. I see myself learning to be better at welding using the TIG process. I also see myself continuing to advance in my knowledge of various welding processes. I see myself learning more about damascus blacksmithing, and how to make more intricate trinkets and tools. I think at 42, I would be advancing in my knowledge of primitive crafts and leatherworking.

I see myself advancing in my knowledge of music. I would like to learn to play the guitar, the spoons, harmonica, banjo, fiddle, banjitar, and native American flute. I also want to advance in my abilities to write complex lyrics with intense wordplay. I would like to continue to acquire more lyrical skill to be more successful with my musical career. I see myself learning how to rap faster and more clearly, and learning how to expand my vocal range. I also see myself learning how to deal with the attention that comes with being successful in the music industry.

I see myself learning more about various vehicles and how to fix them. I see myself advancing in my ability to work on and repair vehicles. I hope to know the workings of 1972-1999 Chevrolet trucks from headlights to tail lights, and everything in between. I see myself learning how to convert cars from automatic to manual transmission. I also see myself learning how to swap in different motors into cars and trucks. I will be learning more ways to eek out every last bit of horsepower from vehicles, and different ways to shed weight to increase speed. I see myself learning to shift at better times to be faster, and I see myself learning how to speed through turns better, and get better at drafting. I will be learning better techniques to drift, and how to apply that in races.

I see myself figuring out more and more ways to help my community and my country. I want to learn better ways to help those in need, and more efficient ways to improve areas that need it, such as lakes that have been poorly taken care of. I see myself learning better ways to parent my children. I hope that at 42 years old, I will be the best dad and husband I can be, and I know that I will keep learning as I age until death. I see myself learning how to raise teenagers that have different wants and needs, and learning how to fulfill those needs.
