Missouri by Candie - January 2016 Scholarship Essay
I often find myself having so many things to do as a senior that I forget to do the most important. I am continuously filling out scholarships, working, or doing my homework that I forget I’m human with a family. I think that I should relax a little more and work a little less. My senior year is flying by so fast and I need to make the best of it. In about a year, I plan to be enrolled at Three Rivers Community College. I would like to have most of my basics finished considering, I have already taken five college classes during high school. After my basics, I would like to be accepted into the nursing program to receive my RN license. From this point, I would like to attend Arkansas State University to receive my specialist degree in nursing. I would then like to continue my education and become a nurse practitioner for an Oncologist. About fifteen years later I see myself furthering my education to become an Oncologist. My dream that keeps me going is that someday I will be certified to help someone through the worst time of his or her life.
I will graduate Senath-Hornersville High School at the age of eighteen. My GPA is currently a 3.67 and my college GPA is a 3.3. I work at the Grecian Steak House everyday after school. When I started working there it was meant to be a part time job. I started working there about a month before my Sophomore year. It has over time turned into a full time job. I work about sixty to seventy hours every two weeks. There are moments when I wish I could be a normal teenager but there are other times when I think my hard work has been rewarding. I have a strong work ethic with a little touch of the real world in my life. Life hit me hard at an early age.
At the age of fifteen my home was foreclosed on. I was completely devastated and did not understand why. My family and I moved in with my aunt and uncle for a while. My mom became unbelievably depressed, and my dad left. We eventually found a rent house in Kennett, Missouri and moved in. Things were going good ,but mom became depressed, even more than she already was. At this point I had to step up to keep us from getting into a financial hole we could not escape out. I began working more hours at Grecian. About four months in a row I payed the rent, electric bill, water bill, and other bills my mom needed help with. I felt all alone at this point in my life. I swore my child would never go through the same thing. My dad eventually came back and things seemed to get better. He then left and came back and forth for a while.
Even though things are better at home, I still pay for all of my personal needs. My mom and dad help here and there but not like most. I sometimes wonder how my life would be if I did not have a job. I wonder what it would be like to have parents to pay for the things I need. I imagine myself having a 4.0 GPA and a better sleep history. I can honestly say that I am proud of who I am. I am proud of my big heart and strong worth ethic. People with these qualities are the ones that make a big difference in the world. Though I know work ethic is so important, I sometimes just wish I could be a little more like a teenager. While my friends were going out on Friday and Saturday nights, I was waitressing at a local restaurant. School is the most important thing to me, but if I would learn to relax a little I think I would do better.
