The Teacher in Me by Candace - October 2016 Scholarship Essay
If I had the opportunity to teach any academic subject, I would chose to teach anatomy and physiology. I am currently a high school senior taking science classes with plans of becoming a registered nurse. I have completed four years in a Project Lead the Way Program titled the Principles of Biomedical Sciences. This curriculum has given me a strong background of the human body, its system, and why it reacts in the way it does. It was my first introduction to anatomy and physiology and helped lead me toward nursing.
I am now in anatomy and look forward to learning something new every day. Learning about all the bones, muscles, body structures, and systems makes me want to become a nurse even more. The knowledge this class gives me is something I will use every day in my future career. It provides information I am passionate about and cannot get enough of. As a nurse, you have to learn the basics before you can thrive in upper level academics. Anatomy informs me of where parts are, but physiology teaches me how they work. They go hand in hand giving me an advantage going into various nursing classes. Teaching a subject that I am so compassionate about allows me to pass on the passion in that subject area. Being a teacher in these subjects would give me a deeper understanding in these sciences and allow me to apply the learned knowledge in my future career.
